Instagram and stress: This can't be life, but it is though

You ain't got to lie. We know you're stressed. We know it because we are too. Who isn't?

The bigger and better question is, why? What's the source of your stress?

Another question, why do we choose, yes choose to be stressed?

Many of the reasons we are stressed are from our own choices.

Let's take a quick look.

To begin, we probably need to be in alignment on what stress is.

It sounds pretty helpful depending on how you look at it. But let's zoom in; "whether it's real or imagined".

This means we can create stress on our own from just a thought and not even from something that actually has happened.

We can think about something and stress can automatically take over.

That takes us to choice.


One day I spoke with someone who was on Instagram and I asked, "Are you on Instagram, do you like it?" She looked at me like I lost my mind at that very moment. As if, by default, of course she likes it.



However, Instagram leads us to tons of feelings and many of them are not feelings that lead to happiness.

"Instagram is the worst social media network for mental health and wellbeing, according to a recent survey of almost 1,500 teens and young adults. While the photo-based platform got points for self-expression and self-identity, it was also associated with high levels of anxiety, depression, bullying and FOMO, or the “fear of missing out.” -Time Magazine

That equals stress.

In my Kanye voice, Instagram is a choice. We know how we are going to feel after using Instagram for a certain amount of time, especially if we look at certain profiles on certain days. This takes us to...


'Previous studies have suggested that young people who spend more than two hours a day on social networking sites are more likely to report psychological distress. “Seeing friends constantly on holiday or enjoying nights out can make young people feel like they are missing out while others enjoy life,” the #StatusOfMind report states. “These feelings can promote a ‘compare and despair’ attitude.”' -Time Magazine

Instead of scrolling and comparing, why not sit in some nice good old fashioned silence, maybe meditate, speak with a friend, write a poem or exercise.

We have the power to make the choices to do the things that make us happy.


Less stress is the mission. 

Don't worry. Be happy. But what if we listened to that advice. Those are big words.

Thats the trick.

We can make the decision to be happy. We can make the decision to stress less.

Have more fun. 

But, if you're all like you NEED your Instagram. We feel you. We aren't saying IG is the only source of stress, 'cause bills. 

What we are saying is look for balance in life and to try out the things that will decrease stress.
