Hello, Jayson here—Milkshake E-Liquids Service Rep during the day, DJ JAYM3SON by night. It seems that there is a new hotspot here in Los Angeles: Arena K-Town, located near the corners of Vermont and Wilshire, in the heart of Korea Town. In the past 3-4 months, the club’s popularity has skyrocketed. They host club events Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, every week. And each week, the popularity continues to grow, and the lines are getting longer.
The club was started by a group associated with throwing parties all around LA. One of the owners, and resident DJs, David Ho (DJ Name: DHO), has been involved in the DJ scene for quite a while, and has teamed together with others, to help bring Arena K-Town to its current status as one of the hottest nightclubs in L.A. DHO also started his own DJ School in 2015—Academy of DJ’s, where artists can attend an 8-week course to “ignite the fire in students that want to embark in a journey to learn the fundamentals of DJ’ing in the modern day music industry.” The Academy is going strong, currently in their 6th season.
I’ve personally been DJ’ing for about 4 years now. Using my best friend’s equipment, I made my first mix in the summer of 2014, for the car ride to EDC in Las Vegas. It was a very sloppy EDM mix, as I didn’t know what I was really doing, and threw the mix together in 1 hour. However, my friends enjoyed it, and told me that I should try and pursue DJ’ing. Over the years, I began to lose interest in EDM. Now, heavily influenced by DJs of the 143 Soundsystem and Soulection Collective, I mainly DJ 90s r&b and hip-hop. What started out as a little experiment has helped me grow as an artist, as well as actually landing me a “residency” at Arena Nightclub. A good friend, and fellow DJ, Joey Calderon (DJ 1OAK), brought me on before the grand opening of Arena K-Town in March, and I have since then become a regular DJ there. I am constantly striving to get better, and the crowds at Arena have continuously shown me love.
All in all, things are only looking up for Arena. The bigger they get, more specials guests they book. It’s only a matter of time before they begin to get big time DJ’s to perform there. So if you’re in the L.A. area, feel free to drop by and party! I promise you won’t regret it.
